When I began playing pickleball, the hardest thing to learn for me was the three number score call. This was totally different from keeping score in any other sport I had played up to that point. I could never remember how to keep the score when I began playing and I relied on my experienced partners to keep the score for me.
And as a tennis player coming over to pickleball, learning the double bounce rule was also somewhat of a challenge for me. Coming from the tennis court in my adult years, and the baseball field in my younger years, players are always taught to react accordingly and move towards the ball when a ball is coming your way.
Well not in pickleball when your team is serving and you are receiving the ball on the return of serve. I lost count on the number of times I moved in when I thought I had a great shot on the return of serve and hit an “untouchable winner” only to be told while watching my “masterful” shot, you need to let the ball bounce on the return of serve. That double bounce rule got me more times than I care to admit.
